Yes, another movie review.  I did say I would do more.  But lately there haven’t been many that have just captured me.  Oh there have been some good movies don’t get me wrong.  A recent good watch was Lions For Lambs, well worth watching too.  But this Denzel Washington entry that I just finished watching actually brought me off my seat, and I had to write about it.

I like a good action flick as much as the next guy.  Problem is most of them substitute action for a story.  And how many car chases and crashes does one need to see on celluloid in a lifetime anyway?  Okay, so yeah there are some speeding cars in this one, and a few don’t drive home except on the back of a flat bed.  But they’re chasing a train.  Yes, we’ve seen some train movies over the years too.  But something about this one just keeps you glued to it and the edge of your seat.

It’s hard to go wrong with a Denzel Washington movie and this one is no exception.  He plays a 28 year veteran engineer who’s facing his final few days before a forced retirement.  One of his less than brilliant coworkers allows a 1/2 mile long train to go from sitting in a yard to racing full throttle through the Pennsylvania countryside, with no one on board.  By chance Washington’s character is in a position to intercede along with his conductor played by Chris Pine, and they do.

What results is a heart pounding, breath taking ride.  Oh and the best part?  It’s based on a true story.  See it!
